What’s the next line?

“Minus one, that’s three. Quick maths”

Big Shaq innit!

A nice simple sum that.

Couldn’t be more basic.

There’s much more to maths after that.

Algebra, calculus and so on.

Stuff most of us will have never heard of, I’m sure.

But that doesn’t mean that “2 + 2 =4” isn’t still true does it?

The advanced stuff doesn’t negate the basics.

It builds on it.

Adds to it.

It’s like when we get replies to these blogs saying things like “There’s more to weight loss than calories in vs calories out, you know?”

We do know.

After being in the industry over 18 years now, I had heard.

But that doesn’t stop those basics still being valid.

Nothing does.

Until someone can be kept under controlled laboratory circumstances where energy in can be accurately measured to +/- 20 calories per day……….

And be in a deficit……………

And NOT lose weight………….

Then we’re happy to use this as that essential base sum.

The more advanced stuff can be used as ways to make this sum happen.

If they help.

But not if they hinder.

And not at the expense of making the sum actually happen.

Don’t over-complicate it any more than you have to.

Particularly at the moment.

If we’ve struggled with the more ‘advanced stuff’ at other times in the year, it’s probably not the best time to look at it now.

Just go to the simplest sums available and you won’t be too far out.

Much love,
