I was going to run this series of blogs next week Monday to Friday.

But then I realised pulling it forward gave me an opportunity to plug what’s happening tomorrow night one more time πŸ˜‰

In case you haven’t seen, I’m doing a one off pro-wrestling match on a show at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

7-9pm. Suitable for all the family. Info at www.facebook.com/events/2028598050696654. Discounted tickets viaΒ www.maccwrestling.co.uk. Be great to see you there πŸ™‚

Plug over πŸ˜‰

I used to be a regular pro-wrestler with 350 matches, mostly in my 20s.

Appearing half naked in front of hundreds or thousands of people on a regular basis meant I had to stay in pretty good shape year round.

## Tactical reminder – I was a fat kid and student and wasn’t really in shape until my early 20s in case I come across as a standard “I always loved sport since school and was brilliant at it” FitPro ##

Now, aged 37, with four kids, a business, constant neck and back pain, etc………

I generally stay in pretty good shape.

But not quite where I was 1o+ years ago.

Which I’m more than fine with.

I would’ve asked pretty serious questions of carefree, younger me if he wasn’t in better shape than an ageing, injured father of four.

But, I’ve spent the last 6 weeks or so turning the clock back.

Give or take, tomorrow night, I’ll step back in the ring with the body I had a decade ago (plus a few wrinkles).

And I want to share a few lessons and reminders I’ve gleaned along the way.

Here’s Number One………….

The value of a goal!

Having a specific result and specific date to work towards has helped no end.

Knowing that by the 21st October I want to be around 6% body fat and have maintained (or slightly increased) muscle mass is nice and clear.

General fitness, health, well-being, energy levels, happiness, etc………..

Should always ‘underpin’ any approach.

But having something specific in the short to medium term AS WELL is way more motivating than the above alone!

Again, it’s human psychology.

How our brains work.

We can either work with or against it.

If you’re struggling with ‘motivation’………

Having something specific to work towards……….

That you actually care about……….

That you want to achieve…………

That you’ll feel good if you do…………..

And not so good if you don’t…………..

And is realistic for you………….

And is close enough in the future so you feel you can, most of the time, do what needs to be done between now and then………..

Will get you way better progress than just the stuff that’s always there!

Your goal is, of course, YOUR goal.

Only you can decide what will enthuse you!

Get and keep you going!

It could be an event (RISE Olympics, Born Survivor, What I’ve got planned for next year, a run, Christmas Party, Wedding, etc).

A weight or body fat percentage.

Some sort of physical performance (a weight lifted, time achieved, etc).

Or anything else that you like.

That combination of long term benefits and focus……….

With short term, inspiring goals………..

Is a great combo πŸ™‚

Much love,

Jon ‘Go on, buy a ticket’ Hall and Matt ‘Going for a laugh’ Nicholson
