———————-

Imagine you’re in a room with lots of other people.

You’re all shown three lines and asked which is the longest.

Everyone else goes first and picks what you think to be the second longest line.

It’s your turn.

What do you say?

It experiments up to 75% of people have given the same answer as the rest of the group.

Even though they knew it to be wrong.

The other participants were, of course, plants.

The test was to gauge to the effect of our natural human tendency to conform.

To not stand out.

To do what we don’t think we should because everyone else is doing it.

We see it throughout our lives.

People are offering cake out at work and we have some even though we don’t really want to.

Same with drinks on a night out.

Same with exercising (or not).

If the majority of people around us do (or don’t do) certain things………..

We find it hard not to do the same ourselves.

To ‘go with the flow’.

To not want to be the odd one out.

To appear awkward.

Human nature.

But………..

As always, knowledge is power.

Knowing that this is human nature is the first step to doing something differently.

Of deciding to be in that “25%” who do what they know to be right.

We’ll never try to tell you what to do of course.

Your life, live it how you please.

But, in a world where the vast majority are getting fatter, sicker, less happy with their bodies and energy levels (click myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if that’s been you and you’re ready to change that)………….

Week on week…………

Year on year…………..

You don’t have to go with the majority.

Much love,

Jon ‘LXXV’ Hall and Matt ‘Croydon to Lewisham’ Nicholson
