We’ve spoken many times about the terms we often use to justify our choices.
And how they don’t always make sense.
And, perhaps, don’t help us make the decisions that will benefit us, longer term.
I’ve mentioned ‘the write off’ many times.
You know, writing an evening, day, weekend, week, month, etc off.
A number of less good choices are made.
And we decide there’s no point making the better choices the rest of the time.
As we’ve discussed, it doesn’t really make sense.
How can a period of time be deemed not worth salvaging based on what happened in another period of time?
But, from a technical definition perspective, it makes even less sense.
When a car is written off, it costs more to fix it than it will be worth usually.
It’s a financial calculation.
Money is saved.
When we have a couple of drinks and decide to ‘write off’ the rest of the night and have loads more, we spend more money, surely?
When we have extra food (dessert, snacks, etc) we’re spending more money.
I can’t think of any time the ‘write off’ is given as a reason where it saved money.
Can you?
As always, we would never dream to tell you what to do.
Your life, body, money, etc.
Use it as you wish.
Just helping to question certain beliefs and ways of seeing things that might not be helping us.
Much love,
Jon ‘Wrong On’ Hall and Matt ‘Left In’ Nicholson
