You heard the expression ‘Can’t be arsed’?

CBA for short.

When you can’t be bothered to do something.

Often used in relation to the things you may have to do to make the changes to your body that you desire.

Whether that be its shape, composition, fitness, health, etc.

A lack of motivation to do what’s required.

Conveniently enough the opposite of CBA is ABC.

The initials of the three ‘components’ of self determination theory (SDT).

Many proponents of the have an R instead of the B.

For Relatedness.

I could make some analogy about the CAR getting you to your destination.

But I like ABC being the opposite of CBA.

So I’m going to run with that.

All this blog today is going to do is tell you what those three components are.

I’ll cover each one in a bit more depth over the next three days.

How it’s relevant to your motivation to do something.

How it might be being thwarted by you, those around you, your environment and other factors.

But, for today, I just want you to remember three words.

Autonomy.

Belonging.

Competence.

ABC.

We got that?

Repeat it back in your head (or out loud if you’d like some strange looks at work).

Autonomy.

Belonging.

Competence.

ABC.

See you tomorrow for the next thrilling instalment 😉

Much love,

Jon ‘Jackson 5’ Hall and Matt ” Nicholson

P.S. If you like the sound of working with people who actually understand how motivation works and how to create an environment that supports it and help people grow that internal drive to do things they’ve previously stung fled with (as opposed to just making you feel guilty because “you don’t want it badly enough), then check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting. Remember we have that Leeway on challenges running through Christmas, so there’s no need to “leave it till January”
