As I said in yesterday’s blog, my performance at bowling last weekend wasn’t the best.

My wife Alex, on the lane next to me, scored higher than me and the gap would have been even more if I didn’t have the bumpers.

A few members jokingly pointed this out to me.

Which is fine.

As I said at that point, Alex is generally better at games of skill than me.

In her youth she represented the school, county and University at numerous sports.

I just about squeezed onto the school rugby team because only 14 other lads wanted to play.

Where I’ve done alright at physical things over the years, it’s generally just being a willingness to give it a good go and try my hardest rather than any natural ability.

When you work in the fitness industry, people assume you’ve always been fit and were captain of all the school sports teams.

Not me.

As I said at the bowling “I’m a high enthusiasm, low skill kinda guy”.

And, the older I get, the more I find that’s what gets you places.

There was a poster on the wall at my sons’ Primary School that read “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”.

Now I’m all for working smarter and not just harder.

I’m all for your ‘high return on investment’ activities.

But sometimes, in life, success comes from just turning up day after day.

Doing that knowingly sub-optimal version instead of doing nothing at all (we’ll help with that and help you get better results than that “theoretically better but not done” approach ever will —> www.myrise.co.uk/apply)

Making an effort when you don’t feel like it.

We’ll get further in life, in all areas, by just doing something and course correcting as we go along.

Much love,

Jon ‘I often have an annoying (to Alex) habit of being behind her come the last frame then just over-taking her’ Hall
