I was at Jump Heaven at Hazel Grove with my youngest son the other day.

Despite being the height of an 8 year old, he’s still 5 and we can both get in for a tenner.

He asked me what one of the signs there said.

“Always bounce within your ability” was the answer.

Which I get.

Like the memo, signs like this are written “to protect the writer, not inform the reader”.

But, if we only ever bounced “within our ability” we’d never get any better, would we?

And, let’s be honest, we usually massively underestimate our ability, don’t we?

If you asked me if I could “do a double backflip”, I’d say “not a chance”.

If you had a gun to my child’s head, I’d manage it, I’m sure.

Can’t promise I wouldn’t break my legs, like.

But I’d do it.

So, you could argue, it is within my ability.

I’m not really here to talk about trampolining, I’m sure you’ve guessed.

It’s about generally doing things “within our ability”.

Within our “comfort zone”.

Always a way to not improve.

Essentially guessed.

Usually underestimated.

A sure fire way to create boredom and low mood.

Going into that ‘sweet spot’ of ‘just outside of our ability and comfort zone’ is where not only do change and improvements come………..

But it’s where enthusiasm and energy are created (only a few days till our September programme starts – want to make changes like this with proven help and a money back guarantee? You’ll get that via www.myrise.co.uk/apply) .

Only ever doing anything “within your ability” is no way to live.

Much love,

Jon ‘He completed the climbing wall for the first time that day too’ Hall
