Every now and again you hear something so simple, yet powerful, that it stops you in your tracks.
Something that makes you realise your way of seeing something before perhaps didn’t make all that much sense.
I had a great example the other day.
I was getting the soft balls out for a game of ‘ring toss’ at the end of a session.
If you didn’t know, we always finish seasons with something that’s fun, but still exercisey, so people leave on a high.
I had to look in several of the pull out draw thingys before I found the balls.
“Always in the last place you look, aren’t they?” I commented.
“Do you know why things are always in the last place you look?” replied a member.
“It’s because you stop looking when you find them”
I was momentarily stunned.
So simple.
So obvious.
Instantly realised that saying “Always in the last place you look” doesn’t make any sense.
I literally felt a penny drop (figuratively actually).
Over the years we’ve seen many similar situations.
Where we, or others, have said something, and you can see people’s take on something change in an instant.
The penny drops.
You can see the cogs whirring.
When people realise that they can make available the time and money to be healthier……….
And they’ve just been prioritising other things over that.
Remember, if you have a car that cost more than a few hundred pounds, have Sky TV, take holidays, go out for meals, drinks, etc and so on……….
Then there is time and money there.
As always, we’d never preach to you how to spend either.
It’s your life (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you like the idea of somewhere that will help you question your choices, but won’t judge you for the choices you then make).
But it’s there if you want it.
We’ve seen many people realise in a second that the ‘facts’ they hold to be true about exercise being boring and overly time consuming, healthy food being restrictive and so on………..
Are just their own internal narrative and interpretation.
Or that they don’t actually “need” to eat or drink XYZ.
Or that doing things because they are “normal” and “everyone else does that” doesn’t necessarily make sense in a world which is getting fatter, sicker and less happy day by day.
Hopefully, there’s a couple of examples there that might help in some cases.
If not, have a think about some of the ‘thought processes’ and habits that might be holding you back.
Clarify what they are.
Question them from all angles.
And, like ‘carrying on looking after you’ve found something’………
You’ll, hopefully, realise it doesn’t make sense 🙂
Much love,
Jon ‘The wife will vouch for me being rubbish at finding things’ Hall and Matt ‘Also not great’ Nicholson
