When I’m talking to members (new or existing) about what they want to achieve with us, I’ll sometimes ask how important that thing is to them on a scale of 1 to 10.
You know – we’ll have explored their goals, what that really means to them (the same goal on the surface can mean very different things to different people) and I’ll say “Ok, cool. On a scale of 1-10, how important would you say making those changes is to you?”
“10” is the most frequent answer.
A few 9s or 8s.
Rarely anything lower (and only ever from a ‘potential’ member who then doesn’t join).
Maybe answer that question for yourself now.
What health / fitness / body / energy type changes would you like to make?
Ask yourself “Why?” a few times in a row to get to the bottom of what that really means to you (and those in your life who’d benefit from it).
Then give that a 1-10 for how important it is to you.
Take a mental note.
Sometimes, at a later date, I’ll be talking to people about why they haven’t been making the progress they desire.
Often our main reason is some version of “too busy”, “had a lot on” or “haven’t had the time”
And I’ll sometimes explore where that finite resource of time has been going.
Much of it has been unavoidable.
But never all of it.
“Have you watched any TV in the last month?”
“Have a quick look on Screen Time on your phone – how much time have you spent on social media”.
And so on.
They’ll have been a number of hours of things like that, I’m sure.
And that’s fine.
Perfectly normal.
But……….
On a scale of 1-10, how important are doing however many hours of that per month to you?
You might have said 10.
But I’d guess most won’t.
I’d wager that every single one of us has done some stuff in the last month that’s less than a 7 out or 10 importance to us………..
And have not done stuff that’s an 8, 9 or 10.
And we could ask the same question about stuff we’ve spent our money on.
Again, our money to do what we want with.
But I see it as my job to help people ask questions of their choices.
What have you spent your money on in the last month that was optional?
Socialising, eating out, etc.
All important parts of life, sure.
But I regularly get a bit sad when I see ex-members posting on Facebook about nights out that’ve clearly cost them £100+………
Whilst their other posts clearly indicate their body fat levels, energy, happiness and mood (which they put as a 10/10) haven’t gone in the direction they wanted since they left us.
Again, your life, your choices.
But if something that’s a 8, 9 or 10 out of 10 to you isn’t happening because of a lack of resource (time, energy, money)………..
Then it’s worth looking at where we’re currently using those resources on something less important (and we’ll make sure that your time with us is the best possible investment of £3 a day in yourself that you could possibly make –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply) .
Much love,
