We mentioned on Monday about RISE Olympics on Saturday.

One of the things we arranged to make it more of an event was ‘The NinjaTron’.
A big screen video showing who’s next, what they’re doing, etc.
And playing them some ‘Entrance Music’.
Bit like at the boxing or wrestling.
I’d asked all the participants what music they’d like in our Facebook group.
One of the participants “Cannonball” Claire Evans asked for ‘Any way you want it’ by Journey.
## We gave everyone funky nicknames BTW ##
I scan read Claire’s request.
And thought she was telling me to pick any song by Journey.
So I asked if “Don’t stop believing” was ok.
She said it would be fine but would her original choice would be ok?
A slightly confusing conversation ensued.
Until I realised what I’d done.
A classic example of skim reading something………
And filling in the (non existent) gaps.
At not quite getting the right ‘answer’.
It’s something we’re all guilty of.
And, as we’ve mentioned before, it can be a source of, shall we say, disappointing results.
People reading that we recommend getting a balanced diet of protein, fat and carbs.
Which for most people, on the standard Western Mega-High-Carb diet, means less carbs and more protein and fat.
And people scan that, fill in the gaps and then cut out all carbs.
Which was never what we said.

Or they’ll read that our focus is more on getting natural foods and the above balance……….
And less about calories.
And they’ll scan that, fill in the gaps and think calories don’t count.
Which, of course, they do.
We generally find that when you JERF (Just Eat Real Food) and get that balance (and address sleep, stress, hydration, mindset, etc)……..
Your appetite takes care of the ‘calorie bit’ enough to get you a good 80%+ of the way to your result.
You can, of course, overeat when eating this way.
But we find it doesn’t generally happen.
Unless everything gets confused by the affects of an imbalanced diet, poor sleep, stress, etc.
Concentrate on getting the balance and just having real food 95% of the time.
If your hungry between meals, have more.
If you’re not, don’t eat more for the sake of it.

Or they’ll read that we recommend a certain amount of water each day.
They’ll scan that, fill in the gaps and include water in other drinks, their food, etc.
When again, we didn’t say that.
The water target is from water.
Any other water from elsewhere is a bonus!

You get the idea.
We’re all guilty of it.
Putting 2 and 2 together to make 5.
If you think you’re doing what you should and the results aren’t coming (getting you to at least 15% body fat as a man, 21% as a woman)………
Then you’re probably missing something.
