So, we had the briefing meeting for our December challenges on Tuesday.
As always, at the end, I am available for questions.
This time there were three young ladies who were particularly inquisitive about the food side of it.
“Is it restrictive?” they asked.
“I wouldn’t call it restrictive” I explained. “There’s tonnes of healthy stuff you can eat. But if you’re eating crap at the moment, then, yeah, that would have to change to get good results.”
They asked a bit about what I ate as an example.
The came the two immortal questions:
“Aren’t you ever naughty?”
And
“Don’t you ever treat yourself?”
############################
It’s a mindset shift that people often have to go through to get lasting results.
The concept that eating shit food that makes them miserable is “naughty”.
And all the exciting, fun associations that “naughty” has.
People end up realising that the crap they were poisoning themselves with…….
That created a body that made them miserable…….
That created energy levels, sleep, sex drive, bloated eyes and pain levels that weren’t what they wanted……..
That was, statistically speaking, going to shorten their lives………
Wasn’t “a bit naughty”.
It was f*&$ing stupid!
They realise that eating healthily can be plenty of fun.
And that the fun a healthy, functional body brings to their lives is far better.
##########################
Same with the ‘treating themselves’ concept.
What kind of treat is it to make your body and mind worse?
To make yourself unhappier?
Sounds like a punishment, not a treat.
Our ninjas find that when they change this mindset they end up with a lot more treats.
Good ones.
More fun stuff they’re capable of.
More energy to get the most out of these things.
The confidence to do them.
And it’s entirely up to us what we perceive as a ‘treat’.
If it’s something someone does every day regardless of what’s happened, how is that a treat any more than anything else you might decide is?
###########################
Look, we get it.
We’ve been there.
We’re not perfect.
We’re just people who are lucky enough to have figured out answers to, at least, some of the problems we all face.
When I was fat, I used to use words like “treat” and “naughty”.
And “I’ve earned” or “I deserve”.
Because everyone else did.
But as Mark Twain said “When you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to change course”.
Most people are doing things that make them miserable and are driven to that, in part, by the way they perceive things.
Don’t be most people.
Much love,
Jon ‘Don’t treat myself with food’ Hall and Matt ‘I’m not a dog’ Nicholson
