So, the majority of you will be aware that England crashed out of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday after our biggest ever defeat to Australia at Twickenham.
Disappointing, of course.
But, as with a lot of things nowadays, the interesting thing was seeing different people’s reactions on FaceBook.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
And there were many balanced, intelligent opinions being put across and conversations being had.
But, as always, there were the ‘armchair experts’.
Pointing out how they “could do a better job”.
At either playing or managing.
Or both.
Despite only having played at school.
Decades ago.
And never coaching a single game or managing a team of any sort.
They explain their opinions and theories as though they were absolute fact.
With such conviction you’d think they’d won a World Cup or seven themselves.
You get it in football too.
That guy in the pub who’s sure he has the answer to his team’s problems.
“If only they’d listen.”
And you get it in health / fitness / weight loss too.
Your friend who swears by a meal replacement shake or juicing system.
Despite the fact that they’ve yo-yo’d in weight and are, overall, heavier than when they started.
The colleague who belittles what you’re doing.
Even though they are in the worst shape of their life.
The family member who tells you “what you should be doing”.
Having never coached a single person to better health / fitness / weight in their life.
You know the people.
And you know what to do now.
Treat their opinions with the same level of consideration you do that guy in the pub, or the know-it-alls on FaceBook.
Ie: None.
Much love
Jon ‘Good news – my 5 year old plays rugby and had promised when he’s older that he will “Grab the Australians with this hand, hulk smash them with this one and score 100 tries” Hall and Matt ‘I reckon they should just score more points and concede less’ Nicholson
P.S. Remember, the details for the next find-out-more meeting are up at myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting 🙂
