Would you like a definite plan for making it, at the very least, quite unlikely that you’ll do something that you’ve struggled with before?

I know you don’t, but work with me here.

It’s saying four words.

“I’ll just do it”.

Or “I know what I need to do, I just need to do it”.

It’s a pretty regular conversation that I have with newer members about what they are intending to do……

Where the entirety of their plan is just to try again with the same thing that hasn’t happened before.

It’s not that it can’t work.

It’s just it’s the same plan that hasn’t worked before.

And if nothing changes nothing changes.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

I get the resistance to increased planning.

I have it myself at times and definitely did a lot more in the past.

More precise planning sets the parameters for perceived failure.

It can feel like an extra source of stress.

Maybe a restriction of freedom.

We might tell ourselves that we like to “go with the flow”.

But it’s always worth remembering that this ‘unlikely to happen’, minimal plan has led us to a place that we’re not happy with.

Where our body, energy levels and mood are restricting us already.

And that’s creating a degree of stress and pressure that we don’t want.

“Do some exercise” can become “3 RISE Sessions booked in at XYZ times”.

“Eat better” can become “Track food for three days”.

“Get more sleep” can become “Go to bed by 10:30 four times this week”.

A bit more precise planning around our efforts to make changes to our body will increase our freedom and reduce our stress and pressure overall.
