My three year old son Charlie really likes it when I lie on my back and lift him up in the air with his tummy on the soles of my feet.
“Fly like Batman” he usually requests.
“Like Superman” I quickly correct him.
To say he’s pretty smart, it’s a poor error.
Batman, of course, can’t fly.
He’s a normal human being called Bruce Wayne.
No ‘super powers’.
He’s invested his time and hard earned cash in developing systems and technology to enable him to do things beyond most people’s capabilities..
Trained hard for years to have exceptional physical ability.
He’s earned his abilities.
Superman was just lucky.
Born on another planet.
Krypton, of course.
Just so happens to look like us and our atmosphere (or whatever) enables him to fly (and be practically indestructible, massively strong, can shoot lasers from his eyes, breath really cold, etc).
Just blind luck.
I’d rather Charlie attempted to emulate Batman than Superman.
Being born lucky is, perhaps, more rare than we might think.
Whilst there are marginal variations in metabolism when matched for body size and composition…………
They are pretty small.
+/- 100 calories at most (usually less).
And studies have shown zero correlation between ‘good’ / ‘bad’ metabolism and weight levels.
Ie: Someone who is lean is just as likely to have the ‘bad’ metabolism as a ‘good’ one and vice versa for someone carrying more fat than they’d like.
In this respect, at least, we are all more like Batman than Superman.
No miraculous differences from some luck of genetics.
We can use systems (a bit of planning and scheduling) and technology (our app, MyFitnessPal, online food shops, etc) to work smarter.
We can put the effort in exercise wise.
We can invest time and money into something that gives a massive return on investment (ooooh, ooooh, us –>Â myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).
Lamenting that our “metabolism” isn’t better is a bit like being upset we weren’t born with superpowers.
It would be nice, of course.
But we’re all in the same boat.
Be more Batman!
