In February 1519 Herman Cortes and 600 of his Spanish chums landed at Yucatan
Under Cortes’ orders all the ships were then burnt.
No excuses – fight and win.
Or die.
No going backwards.
This ultimate removal of any fall back plan / safety blanket saw the unfavoured Spaniards go on and claim an unexpected victory, conquering the Aztec Empire.
One of the things that came up over and over again in the coaching sessions this Monday was that people often ‘fell back’ on unhealthy options when ‘in a rush’.
The breakfast bar, bowl of sugar cereal, crisps, bowl of pasta, etc.
Something that was ‘more convenient’.
Everyone agreed though that the mere fact that they were ‘there’ made it much more likely they would be consumed.
If they weren’t there it wouldn’t happen.
We mentioned yesterday that we’re not big fans of just ‘trying harder’.
Of using ‘willpower’.
If that worked as an approach you probably wouldn’t be reading this.
So, if we were to burn our ships / remove our unhealthy foods then victory shall be ours 🙂
Try it – get rid of those ‘safety blankets’.
Don’t just ‘try harder’.
Create a life where what you need / want to do is the easiest route, not the hardest.
Much love,
