Anyone who’s followed what we recommend for at least a while will have heard certain ‘standard responses’ from friends and family.
One of these bad boys is “But you need carbs for energy”.
Two points there.
Firstly we’ve never said not to have carbs.
They’ve just misinterpreted what’s been said to fit in with a viewpoint they have in their mind.
That eating less carbs is automatically “Low carb” or “No carb”.
What we actually recommend is “Low crap” of course.
Eating quality, real food.
Instead of processed shite.
And we recommend a balanced diet.
A third of your energy each from natural carbs, protein and healthy fats.
For most people that does mean less carbs and more fat and protein.
Because they were on a Mega-High-Carb (or Mega-High-Crap) Diet before.

And as for “needing carbs for energy”.
We never quite get that argument either.
After all, at a very base level, you’re trying to get less energy in and more out, no?
And fat has over twice as much energy per gram as carbs.
And protein about the same.
So, needing it for energy doesn’t really make sense.
This opinion has come from two real places.
Firstly people are talking about the need for carbs to replace depleted glycogen stores.
But if you have excess body, that’s not going to be an issue.
And secondly, people often find their body has to adjust from being lowered by sugars and caffeine to working how it should.
And they will probably be low in energy for the first few days of that adjustment.
Same the other way round.
Someone who ate well would be low in energy for the first few days of the ‘Sugar and Caffeine’ Diet.
(And they’d never actually get back up to their previous energy levels either).

In terms of ‘needing’, carbs are actually the ones you need the least.
You would die pretty quickly if you didn’t have sufficient fat or protein.
Hence the terms ‘Essential Fats’ and ‘Essential Proteins’.
You wouldn’t die for quite a long time if you never ate carbs again.
Never heard of ‘Essential Carbs’.
You body wouldn’t function as well as it would if you got the balance right, of course.

We just want to make it crystal clear we’re not advocating low or no carbs.
Balanced diet is the key.
Just pointing out the falseness (and pointlessness) of when people say “But, you need carbs for energy”.
Not come down and seen what we do recommmend food and exercise wise and, more importantly, how we help people actually implement that?
The find-out-more meeting is next week – myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting.
