We’ve mentioned countless times that we’re not fans of restriction.
You know – having to constantly limit yourself from the stuff you want to do.
And make yourself do stuff you don’t want to.
Will power can get you so far with this approach.
But it rarely works longer term.
To do this, we essentially have to retrain the brain.
And it takes time and effort, sure.
But the effects are much more permanent.
And when done, it makes the ‘what’ you need to do relatively easy – just part of the way you live your life.
It was my youngest’s 4th Birthday party on Saturday.
And there was, of course, cake.
I had a little as a I didn’t want to be a party pooper.
Tasted nice it did.
But there’s no temptation to start tucking in more than the three times a year I’ll have a bit (the three kids’ birthdays).
I long ago changed the way I saw cake.
It’s a source of short term pleasure.
But long term unhappiness.
With your body, energy levels, health, etc.
And things like this party confirm that.
Dozens of Mums salivating over the cakes only to look miserable seconds after eating it as they’d ‘given in’.
Before going back to complaining about their weight with their friends.
It brings to mind the old Eddie Izzard sketch – Cake Or Death.
Cake And Death instead though.
An exaggeration, sure.
But you get the idea.
The more you shift the way you perceive cake (and we’re using cake here as a catch-all term for anything that makes you unhappy long term), then the easier your journey will become.
