A second thing I’ve changed my mind on over the years (following on from exercise for weight loss), is the value of having one, specific protocol.
A way of eating and exercising that all my clients have to follow. One method for weight loss.
A ‘best’ way of getting results.
Whilst dismissing those ‘lesser’ approaches.
And knowing and studying those ‘best ways’ is, of course, worthwhile.
And for some it’s the right approach.
But for others, for various reasons, it might not.
More Than One Method for Weight Loss?
That sub-optimal, but doable, approach is best for them.
Again, in my defence, I was never bad as many of my contemporaries.
Who seem to spend half their lives on the internet arguing with other FitPros.
Vigorously defending their approach of choice.
Instead of spending that time and effort actually helping clients.
But yeah, I am more flexible now on the approach that’s appropriate for the person in front of me.
What We Do at RISE
We do have particular approaches that form the core of our recommendations.
You know – fun, group based personal training sessions.
A balanced diet of mostly natural foods, not too much.
Looking at stress, sleep and hydration.
Challenging habits, mindsets and beliefs.
Partly because we know that we way we put across our message (like I am here) attracts, roughly, a certain type of person.
A person a bit like us.
And we’ve found for them (as with us) that kind of approach generally works well.
But if someone wants to start counting points or having green days and red days and that works for them as a method for weight loss and they’re happy doing it for the rest of their lives………..
Then more power to them.
If it works for you and you’re happy doing, carry on.
Even if it’s not specifically what we recommend.
If it doesn’t work for you and / or you’re not happy doing it indefinitely……….
Then we’re looking at combination of why not (there’s no point just jumping from option to option in a never ending search that will get us nowhere)………..
