In 1991 Chesney Hawkes was plucked from obscurity and thrown into the limelight when chosen for the lead role in the film ‘Buddy’s Song’ and released the soundtrack single ‘The One And Only’.

Amongst the other Shakespearian level lyrics, Chesney sang ‘Call me by my name’.

Bad advice Hawkes!

Possibly single handedly responsible for the current obesity epidemic.

That is, of course a joke, before any of the more literal / mental readers of this blog complain 😉

But it is true that the ability to call ‘foods’ (and we use that term very loosely in many cases) by a name, rather than what they actually are, is a big factor in a lot of people’s confusion around food.

There are lots of ‘foods’ that are called something that makes them sound healthy when they are far from it.

‘Fruit juices’ that are nearly all sugar and water.

‘Fruit bars’ or ‘Fruit and nut bars’ which are mainly sugars and assorted chemicals.

‘Breakfast Bars’ which are very low quality grains, sugar and all sorts of crap.

And so on.

You get the idea – ignore Hawkes’ shoddy advice and call things by their ingredients, not their names, and see if they sound as healthy or appealing then 🙂

Much love,
