I was in the Co-Op near my house the other day (other shops are available).
It was a more leisurely experience than the time-trials my kids sometimes send me on.
Where they predict “How quick can Dad get to the shop, buy milk and bread and get back?”
Note: Just over 3 minutes is my record.
I was in the middle of a video call with my eldest, as he’d requested Doritos and dip for watching Cobra Kai………….
And a lady started talking to me.
“I keep seeing your video on Facebook” she said.
“Do you know what I wish you’d show though?”
“What’s that?” I replied.
“Some before and afters. Do you have any?”
“We’ve got about four or five hundred on the walls at the club and on the website but Facebook bans you instantly if you try and run ads with them on”
I told her to check the website or to follow the link next time and it would send some more information.
Now, there’s no reason she’d know Facebook don’t like before and after’s in ads as she (I assume) has never run Facebook ads.
I don’t even post them as manual, none sponsored posts on the page anymore as I know they’re clamping down on that too.
And she wouldn’t know that either.
We don’t know what we don’t know.
All of us.
In many, many ways and all through our lives.
How many time have we discovered a different way of doing something that works better for us?
Not only were we not aware of that other way – we probably hadn’t even given it much thought that their might even be other ways.
It’s just something that we did without giving it too much thought.
We might go through life with the belief that “exercise is boring” or “I’m not an exerciser”………….
Until we find a way of doing it that, at least, we’re happy enough doing.
We can spend decades approaching changes to our eating with the belief that we “just need more willpower”…………….
Until we realise that willpower just means we don’t want to do that and we then, instead, do some combination of questioning our thoughts around all that and / or finding a version that we are ok with doing.
We tell ourselves (and others) that “I’m just all or nothing”………….
Until we realise that’s not an actual thing and all that ever exists is the choice we’re making in the present moment and that previous decisions only have the have the influence over current ones that we choose.
We believe that “we don’t have time” or are “too busy” to make changes…………….
Until we realise there are changes we can make that will take little or no time (or even save us time).
Ultimately, we’ve all found things that we didn’t know we didn’t know.
If future you, who’d made the changes you’ve been wanting to make, came to visit………………
And told you what they’d learned or come to realise that had made the difference…………….
What might they tell you?
