I took my boys to Alton Towers last Friday.
We got the Merlin Annual Pass for Christmas last year.
Would recommend them BTW – reckon we’ll end the year about 5 or 6 times up on the deal 🙂
Took two of Oli’s school chums too.
They were sent with pack ups.
When we settled down for our picnic lunch, my boys and I started tucking into our Tupperware box of chicken stir fry with some left of salad and veg.
With fruit for pudding.
The other two lads had the ‘standard’ packed lunch of:
Crustless white bread, processed meat sandwich
Chocolate bar
Crips
Juice
Bit of cake
I could see both boys watching what we were eating.
And one of them eventfully asked “Have you not got any proper food?”.
Which was amusing in some ways.
But sad in others.
And it’s not the first time that I had similar comments made.
By both children and adults.
When did that happen?
That real, natural food is now seen as less proper / normal than processed food?
We’d never tell someone what they should or shouldn’t eat.
No preaching down here at RISE.
But, we just think it’s a symptom of the messed up way we see our food as a society.
Thoughts?
Much love,
Jon ‘JERF’ Hall and Matt ‘SMURF’ Nicholson
