Have you heard the expression “drinking the kool aid” before?

According to google, it “refers to a person or group holding an unquestioned belief, argument, or philosophy without critical examination”

It originates from the November 1978 deaths of over 900 members of the ‘People Temple’ cult when leader Jim Jones instructed his followers to drink a flavoured beverage laced with potassium cyanide.

Apprarently it was Flavour Aid, but the Kool Aid story has stuck ######

the power of the our environment

Some drank it unknowingly.

Some were forced to drink it.

But many took it willingly, knowing it would kill them.

Reports afterwards state an initial reluctance to take part in the suggested ‘revolutionary suicide’.

But, after the first volunteer stepped up, others followed.

As more and more did it, it soon became the norm.

If everyone else is doing it, it becomes harder to say no to and easier to say yes to.

Like most things in life.

If no one at work ever bought cake and biscuits in, we probably wouldn’t would we?

But when everyone does all the time, it just becomes normal.

If no one we knew drank alcohol, we probably wouldn’t get hammered when out with our sober friends.

Or demolish that bottle of wine after a busy day.

If everyone we ever saw maintained relatively low body fat levels, we’d be less likely to gain much weight.

You get the point.

It’s easy to do things when that’s the norm.

Harder to not do them.

We get that.

The power of the our environment

And it doesn’t mean we can’t ever do any of these things and still get results.

We can.

But realising the power of the our environment and the behaviours of others on what we do………….

Being aware of that………..

Maybe changing it and / or our exposure to it where possible…………

Maybe surrounding yourself by people that are making great forward progress –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting ………….

Can all help us stop poisoning ourselves so much 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘And The Gang’ Hall and Matt ‘Box’ Nicholson
