It’s a fairly regular thing I see fellow FitPros posting online that “Email doesn’t work”.

About a month ago, I wrote my 3,000th blog.

These blogs go out on my website, various social media platforms and via email.

With a number of thousand people on my mailing list, this equates to millions of emails sent.

Everyday I receive emails from a variety of different companies (until I unsubscribe if I don’t like what I’m getting).

I can absolutely assure anyone that, if email didn’t work, they and I wouldn’t keep using it.

Ultimately, email doesn’t work if you don’t do it properly.

Like most things.

I see people posting that “Diets don’t work”.

Diets don’t work if you don’t do them properly.

If you find it unmaintainable to do them “properly”, it’s probably not the best choice for you.

But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work.

What I always recommend is to understand the principles that need to occur for the goals that you desire (calorie balance, macro or micro nutrients quantities, etc)………

Then find a method of eating that ‘ticks those boxes’………

That you’re happy, on average, to do.

Same with exercise.

Exercise doesn’t work if you don’t do it properly.

But if you find the version you’re trying to do some combination of boring, intimidating and confusing……..

And, therefore, don’t do it (enough)………

Then it probably makes sense to find a version you are ok doing.

Even if it, arguably, isn’t quite as effective as some theoretically better way.

As with email, diet and exercise work if;

– It’s regularly good enough, rather then occasionally brilliant but often doesn’t happen

– We’re willing to start off mediocre and practice ourselves better over time, rather than stopping when we don’t get instant results

Much love,

Jon ‘cheerfulmountain’ Hall
