One of the questions that I mentioned the other day that people often struggle to answer is “What are you looking forward to this week?”

Most of the time the answer is “The end of it”.

I get it – parts of the week feel like something to ‘get through’.

But it’s still a pretty poor answer.

If anything, I’d say it’s a slap in the face to the people that we care about who we will spend time with that week.

If we’re spending time with our partner, kids or friends and we say that the only thing we’re looking forward to in the week is “the end of it”……

That’s basically saying we don’t value that time at all.

Which I’m sure isn’t the case.

Imagine if you said to that loved one “Are you looking forward to watching that program / doing that thing / going to that place / spending that time with me?”……….

And they replied with “No. The only thing this week that I’m looking forward to is the end of it”……….

You’d be pretty upset wouldn’t you?

So maybe it’s worth asking if there are things that we can choose to ‘look forward to’.

The small, ‘normal’ things we’ve stopped noticing

But if the choice is between looking forward to standard things that will enjoy and looking forward to nothing at all, I think I know which approach will make us happier.

There’s always plenty to look forward to if we actually look.

The more we notice them, the more we create more of them.

Much love,
