I talked in last Saturday’s blog about ‘freedom’.

How it’s a relative concept.

Arguably a myth.

That decisions have consequences.

And choosing our restrictions can give us the freedoms we desire more.

Whilst writing it, it reminded me of a song.

Freed From Desire by Gala.

Makes me think of two things.

A plane journey to a family holiday in 1998 when it was one of a handful of songs I could listen to on the inflight system.

And the last dance with a group of friends whilst away for a 40th birthday last September.

There’s a line in it that I only recently realised what it actually was.

You may have placed it instantly from the blog title.

It’s the second half of each line of the chorus.

Turns out it says;

“My love has got no XYZ, he’s got his strong beliefs”

Whilst I knew it wasn’t “trombolese”, it sounded like that and I didn’t know what else it could be for many years.

As did many others I’ve spoken to.

Now I know what it says, I can clearly hear it every time.

When you learn something, sometimes you can never see it the old way again.

When the penny drops that you can eat more healthily with no additional time needed, so being “busy” isn’t actually a justification, you can’t go back.

When we accept that any exercise is beneficial, we can’t go back to saying we didn’t do any for weeks and months on end because we didn’t have time.

When we realise that tactical planning leads to a net gain in freedom, not a loss, we can’t go back to saying we “like to go with the flow”.

It’s easy to see something the “wrong way” for a long time.

Once we see the “right way”, there’s no going back.

Much love,

Jon ‘(UA)’ Hall

P.S. I’ve been running a bit low on blog ideas recently so I’m going to try a series based on song lyrics for the next however many days.

P.P.S. My programme is designed for busy people. We work on time efficient exercise and changes outside of that that take little to no extra time. This works way better than the same massive list of things to do that you’ve struggled with before. Reply to this with LOOK ROUND to come down and see how that works!
