I mentioned in yesterday’s blog that we’re off on holiday tomorrow.

We’ll actually have a leisurely start to the day as it’s my eldest son’s birthday and we don’t get him and his brother until 2pm.

But I’m sure we’ve all had plenty of early alarm clocks to catch a plane.

Not all that hard to get out of bed then is it?

The kids spring from their mattresses, rather than having to be dragged out.

It’s exciting.

The actual process hasn’t changed in the slightest from other days when we find this hard.

A 5am alarm to go on holiday feels very different to a 5am alarm to go for a workout.

Even though it’s exactly the same thing.

Ultimately, how hard something is to do often depends on the leverage.

Archimedes said “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world”

By adding more ‘leverage’ we can make previously difficult things feel easier to do.

Stacking more and more benefits, rather than just the most obvious ones.

Make it more about others who we care about and not just ourselves.

Put some ‘skin in the game’ so that our decisions matter more in the short term and not just in the distant future.

A public declaration on social media, a bet with a friend or a ‘reverse wager’ on a website like stickk.com.

It’s tempting to keep hitting snooze when it’s a workout we’re going for.

That temptation is not there when there’s a flight to catch.

How can we mimic this to create leverage for things that we’re struggling with?

Much love,

Jon ‘No more worries for me or you’ Hall

P.S. A considerably more enjoyable workout with like-minded people in an intimidation free atmosphere is far easier to motivate ourselves to go to. You’ll find that at www.myrise.co.uk/apply
