I’ve mentioned many times that motivational quotes and memes often have the opposite to desired effect for most of the population.
I’ve been in many gyms over the years where stuff written on the wall has made me think “I’m not sure this is the place for me”.
And, I know that, as someone who has exercised regularly for two decades straight and is pretty confident in what they’re doing, if it makes me feel that way…………
It’ll make most people feel it even more so.
I was reminded of another one the other day.
“Go hard or go home”.
Now, I don’t know if it’s just me but, at least a fair proportion of the time, if they were genuinely the only two options……….
I’d probably go home.
Sometimes I’ll go into a workout pretty up for it.
More often it’ll be something I’m ok with doing but not exactly raring to go with.
Some days I’ll go in not feeling it and actually have a great workout.
Sometimes it’ll just be ok – more than nothing but not exactly “go hard”.
Sometimes it’ll just be a relatively sedate bit of movement designed to just keep me ticking over.
They all have their place.
Going hard has it’s place, sure (stop sniggering).
But it’s not all or nothing.
Doing what you can do and feel up to doing will always be better than doing nothing.
Knowingly sub-optimal and done will always beat theoretically perfect and not done (check www.myrise.co.uk/apply if you want to make it ‘done’ for good this time).
Much love,
