I’ve mentioned before that I have quite a long school drop off.
51 mile round trip in total, both ends of the day for half the week (my two older sons have half the week with us).
One of the things that the boys and I sometimes do to amuse ourselves is a music quiz.
Playing music off Amazon music on my phone and skipping to the next track to see who can recognise it first (don’t you worry, there’s a next track button on the steering wheel, I’m not using my phone while driving).
We say “Got it” in turn to give the others a chance to get it themselves, rather than shouting out the answer.
Amazing how quick you can get some tracks, isn’t it?
A single chord played and you know it.
Some take a bit longer.
You recognise it.
Know how the song goes, but not sure of the title.
So you start “fast forwarding” it in your head to get to some lyrics that either are, or will remind you of, the title.
I was thinking about this whilst “fast forwarding” through Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd the other day.
And how we could fast forward through other things.
Our day or week perhaps?
When we wait till Hungry O Clock then the easiest food choices invariably aren’t great.
The corner shop / garage forecourt / coffee shop / staff canteen / whatever we’ve got in the fridge or cupboard that’s super quick.
If we occasionally “fast forward” a little……..
Give some thought to when and where we’ll be eating……
How much time we’re likely to have…….
Then we can put things in place to make a better choice the easier choice.
Additions to a weekly click and collect?
Swinging by somewhere on the way out because you know it’ll have some better options than where you are later?
Making some extra the night before and having it ready?
Maybe batch cooking (although you don’t have to – I never do)?
No right or wrong.
Just, if experience has shown you that leaving it till the last moment won’t be great…….
Maybe a bit of “fast forwarding” here and there might help?
Much love,
Jon ‘Can I get a rewind?’ Hall
