I mentioned yesterday that many FitPro gives up on advertising really quickly when it doesn’t seem to work right away.

Writing it off as “Facebook ads don’t work” (other advertising mediums are available.

On the odd occasion that people ask how much we at RISE have spent on Facebook ads, they’re quite taken aback by the answer.

We’ve been open for 113 months so it’s added up to a fair whack.

Do you know why I’ve always been happy to spend that?

Because we can accurately track a positive return on investment.

I can see all the stats for the campaigns from views to clicks to opt ins.

And I know how many end up joining (and, you know, doing the important bit of transforming their lives).

So I can see what each pound spent returns at the other end.

Provided it’s a certain level of ROI, it’s all good.

It’s nice to get that down where possible, of course.

But, if I hadn’t of spent that over the years, then the business would have been at least a few times that amount down.

And either we’d be a very scaled back version of what we do, at best.

Or we wouldn’t have made it.

The data is the key.

Without that, we’d just be left with how we “feel it’s going”.

And I’d just see the money going out, not really be sure what was happening and “switch them off”.

As I’ve mentioned recently, how we feel will normally tell us it’s not going great.

Data beats drama.

Cold hard facts sound boring.

But they can be the sexiest thing going.

Or, more likely, they can lead to the stuff that we find ‘sexy’.

Tracking my ad numbers is boring.

Tracking our food for a few days here and there is boring.

Planning our week and diarising our workouts is boring.

Spending planned time going through the Learn tab is boring.

But you know what isn’t?

When we get on the scales and it’s a lower number than it’s been in decades.

When we get in that dress or jacket that we love.

When we catch our other half giving us an admiring glance we haven’t seen for a while.

When we see our kids or those around us inspired by the changes that we’re making.

When we can do more of the stuff we like to do with the people we like doing it with.

They’re anything but boring.

And it’s the data behind the processes that get us there that give us the confidence to keep going.

We know if we are doing what needs to be done.

And, if we’re not, we have something to create course correction off.

If we are we can correlate those processes to the results they’re producing.

We can do what we can to make exercise and eating better as enjoyable as possible…………

But sometimes there just will be boring bits to it.

The things that create that ‘data’………..

And beating the drama that comes from no data……….

And getting the results that brings………..

Are more than worth it.

Much love,

Jon ‘My sister is a drama teacher………’ Hall
