My eldest son has recently become really interested in how I / we run RISE.

He’s considering Business Studies and Sports Science amongst his GCSE options at the moment.

In retrospect, I probably would’ve benefited from similar choices – that degree in Engineering hasn’t come in overly useful over the last twenty years.

He asks me a lot of questions about how we get members, how we run the programme to help people get results and more.

He’s aware that a few local facilities who operate on a somewhat similar model to us have recently gone under.

And he’s interested in how we continue to do well after nearly 10 years of this.

He was asking me the other day on the school run about new members starting.

“Haven’t you run out of people to join Dad?” he asked.

“Doesn’t everyone already know about you and they’ve either joined or decided not to?”

Which got me thinking.

Firstly, I’m not sure, “everyone” knows about us.

Despite my best efforts to market the business, I still sometimes come across people who’ve lived in Macc all this time we’ve been here who haven’t heard of us.

But, more than that, I know that, more often than not, if someone essentially decides not to join us, it’s often not a “No – never”…………

It’s a “not right now”.

According to the last census, there are 51,482 people in Macclesfield.

That’s 10 years old now so the real number will be higher.

You have to be over 16 to join, so that takes out 20.4% and leaves us with about 41 thousand.

Some might say I should remove people over a certain age, but I don’t believe that – we have a wide age range of members and everything we can do is scalable around all variations in fitness, strength, etc.

Whilst not all of our members want to lose weight, it is the most common goal when they join.

Apparently 64.2% of the UK population are “overweight or obese”.

So that’s over 26 thousand people in Macc who would benefit from what we do.

Even after nearly a decade here, only a very small percentage of people who could / would benefit from what we do have joined.

A case might be made that not everyone can afford what we do.

But when you break it down to £3 a day for life changing results, I’d wager that many who feel that can’t afford it, actually could – if they felt sufficiently confident that the results would come.

If the results most of our guys get were 100% automatic and required no time or effort, then I feel confident that most who don’t feel they could afford it, would adjust their finances elsewhere to make that happen.

So, it’s actually more a conversation around the time and effort required and, often, of people trusting themselves that they’ll “do it”.

And we know that people’s circumstances change.

We have members have to stop for a while because of something that’s going on in their lives.

And restart when they feel they can.

We’ve had plenty of people who’ve been aware of us for years and only started when certain circumstances have changed.

And we’ve had many who just hadn’t quite got round to it.

Many reading these blogs for months or years before.

Not “felt ready”.

Not deliberately left it this long, but always had it parked in “next week / month”.

So, ultimately, I’m not concerned we’ll run out of people.

I know a lot of people would benefit from our help and I know we’re really good at helping them.

And, if you’re someone who’s ready to get some help (and wants to take advantage of getting the rest of this year for FREE so you can have Christmas damage limitation and hit the ground running in January), then you can apply now at www.myrise.co.uk/apply).

Much love,
