The other weekend I went on a workshop down in Worcester.

Taken by Britain’s 7th Strongest Man.

Big fella he was.

Anyhoo, we were looking at squats, deadlifts, etc.

‘Twas a useful day where I picked up a few little tweaks and ideas.

One of which was a different way to help me ‘switch on my lats’ (the large muscle in the upper back) when exercising.

I won’t bore you with the details, but it’s something I’ve never been great on.

When you’re trying to remember several different things, some often get ‘forgotten’.

So, John advised me to reposition my elbows.

Which caused things to ‘switch on’ kind of automatically.

No more ‘forgetting’ – I just need to make sure I take that first step and everything else just follows.

################

It’s the same with any thing you’re struggling to ‘remember’.

People often just ‘kinda forget’ to get healthy food in when they go shopping, to go for their workouts and so on.

If ‘just trying to remember’ hasn’t helped you so far………..

Chances are it probably won’t next time.

It didn’t with me for years.

Try ‘working backwards’ and finding somewhere else you can focus on that will mean the later stuff just kinda happens automatically.

Piggy-back an existing habit that’s well entrenched.

Do an online food shop whilst watching your favourite programme on a Sunday night and have your desktop set to a reminder to buy healthy stuff.

Schedule your workouts in your diary / outlook calendar / phone like you do other stuff.

Allow them to be ‘moved’ but not cancelled.

Like you do with other stuff.

Always leave your ‘gym bag’ with your laptop bag when it’s at home.

So it always goes in the car, even if you don’t plan on doing a workout that day.

So it’s always with you when you do intend to workout.

Leave a massive bottle of water by the kettle at home or work.

So you’re reminded to hydrate when your old habit of ‘coffee time’ kicks in.

And so on.

No right or wrong here.

Look at what you struggle with.

And, rather than just ‘trying harder’ to do it……….

Work backwards and find something else that you can do……….

Which will mean the other thing just happens as a consequence.

Much love,

P.S. Incase you missed it, it’s the find-out-more meeting for our ’20lbs weight loss’ and ‘Beach body’ challenges tonight. Miss it and you’re committing yourself to another month of not getting what you want 🙁 myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting.

P.S. Another 10 points up for grabs for anyone that gets those middle names without Googling 🙂
