When you join a conventional gym, you’re just renting access to some exercise equipment in a large room.

Going, using it, knowing what to do and getting any results from it is entirely down to you.

When someone gets involved in our programmes (the ‘Great in 8 Programme’ designed to get them off to a quick, motivating start following by transition into the ‘RISE Together Programme’ where lasting change and the majority of our actual progress comes), they get a lot more than this.

Support, coaching, accountability.

Sometimes people don’t feel this is what they need.

I had a conversation with a new starter about a month ago that I’ve had versions of a few times over the years.

“I don’t need any calls, I don’t need any messages. I don’t need to check your app. I’ll just come to the Sessions and get results from them.”

“Entirely your call, of course. I would say that I don’t think anyone who’s ever just set out to do the Sessions and asked for none of the extra support that we do has ever stayed all that long and particularly got any results as nothing’s fundamentally changed from what they did before which didn’t get them lasting results”

“Fair enough” he responded “I’ll prove you wrong”.

As you’ll have guessed from the title, he didn’t.

He cancelled after a few weeks.

Having not done many Sessions and achieving no results.

Now, I didn’t want to be right here.

Ultimately, what I always want is for people to get the results they joined for.

But I know, from 20 years of experience, that the reasons we give for things not having worked out in the past are usually only part of the conversation.

The “reasons” are usually valid, sure.

But they’re often underpinned by the way we think about the whole thing and how we look at those “reasons”.

Sure, we were busy.

But we’ll always be busy.

And every single person I’ve ever helped make lasting changes was busy.

And made those changes when they were no less busy than they used to be.

Sure stress, other people’s behaviours, busy social lives and other considerations are completely valid.

But, again, they don’t change for people to get results.

How we see them and our thoughts around them are what changes.

And that’s where the support, coaching and accountability come in.

I honestly believe our Sessions are great.

But every FitPro will tell you the same.

It’s a given really.

It’s the easiest part of the job.

It’s changing what goes on in the muscle between our ears that’s key.

And if we’re not open to that, that’s not going to happen!
