Last Friday I was taking my mum to a doctors appointment for her knee.

On the way I popped into see my nephew as he was back from Uni.

And my Dad and brother-in-law who also live there (along with my sister and niece).

I went upstairs to see if my nephew fancied accompanying me and his Nan and getting a free lunch (he obviously did).

As I went upstairs I noticed the door to what is now my niece’s room (she’s swapped with her brother now he’s at Uni) was wide open.

I knew my Dad had been hard at work repainting the room and putting some new furniture in for her so I had a little nosey.

It was absolutely immaculate.

Which, I’m sure she would confess, is far from it’s usual state.

So I assumed that it had only just been finished.

I mentioned this to my dad and he said that it had been done for a number of days and had been “an absolute tip only yesterday”.

It turns out that she’d tided it as her new boyfriend was coming around for the first time that evening.

The pressure of an impending cold, hard deadline had incentivised her to take action.

As it can for all of us.

When things don’t really matter if they get done today, tomorrow or next week……..

They invariably end up moving to next week.

And next week invariably keeps moving to the week after and so on.

Creating our own deadline can be a powerful way to make us take action.

Putting some sort of skin in the game so that it matters if we act now can be beneficial.

I’ve known many people getting great shape when they’ve announced it online that they’ll be doing a photo shoot and booking it in (including me for my 40th birthday).

Maybe booking in for an event that requires our fitness to be at a certain level?

Maybe putting some money on it with a system such as those at stickk.com

Weddings and holidays often have a similar effect.

And there maybe another version for you.

A deadline.

What can you put in place that it matters if you do those things right now rather than deferring it?

Much love,

Jon ‘My Arsenal supporting nephew was very disappointed that new boyfriend is a Spurs fan’ Hall

P.S. If you’ve kept putting off giving our four week programme (lose 10lbs and increase energy, mood and / or mental health GUARANTEED), the maybe take this as a sign to take action today? –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
