In yesterday’s blog I (hopefully) helped you question how much of a ‘pain in the @rse’ it really is to track our food for a few days.
I say this because I know how beneficial it can be to do it and that it’s not really as much of a faff as we like to tell ourselves.
It gives us that level of precision.
Helps us make informed decisions.
It’s not completely needed but if it’s not been happening without, it’s a useful thing to do.
Like we don’t need to accurately track our financial expenditure to help us spend less.
But it would be a good thing to do if that hadn’t been happening either.
If our friend was going further into debt every month and we asked them how much they were spending……….
And they didn’t really know………
I’m sure we’d suggest it was a good idea to get some accuracy on that as a starting point.
Or if they showed us a list of everything they’d bought……….
Or some photos……..
We probably reply with “That’s a good start. How much did these things cost?”
Because the list or photos would give us a rough idea, but only a ball park.
Same with a handwritten food diary or photos of what we’ve eaten.
When people show these to me my responses usually “It generally looks good. How many calories are we talking?”
Educated guesswork and rough numbers are fine……….
Until they’re not.
Much love,
Jon ‘Too easy to overspend in all ways nowadays’ Hall
P.S. Like I do from mid-October onwards (when people say “I’ll leave it till the New Year”), I’m already starting to hear people say “I’ll leave it until after the summer”. We all know deep down that makes no sense. Knowingly sub-otpimal forward progress done now always beats theoretically better progress constantly deferred. Jump it at www.myrise.co.uk/apply to get to September not regretting not doing that!
