Have you ever heard that expression?
Hire slowly, fire quickly.
You know – take your time bringing people on board, get the right people and bring them in the right way.
And then, when it’s not working, move on quickly.
Sort the problem, learn from the mistake.
That applies in most areas of life.
But we’re often tempted to do the opposite.
To rush through life without thinking it through too much.
Then to lament on our mistakes……….
Whilst continuing to make them.
Easily done.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
We can learn from our mistakes super quickly.
We can just choose to stop doing certain things in an instant if we want to.
And we can take our time over putting new things in place.
Don’t feel the need to go straight from where we were to ‘perfection’.
Like releasing that bringing in a good employee successfully takes time…………
But, in the long run, it’s worth it………….
We can choose to give a bit more thought and structure to our approach to bringing in a new ‘thing’ we’d like to do regularly.
Not just decide “I’m going to eat better and do more exercise” and, kinda, hope that’ll just happen.
We wouldn’t just give our new employee a one line explanation of what we wanted to happen and leave them to it.
We’d put an induction process in place to make sure they got off to a good start they could build on more independently over time.
Why treat the new thing we want to do any differently?
Plan the wheres, whens, hows and whos that are involved.
Whilst remembering our “whys”.
A good habit change is like a good recruitment change.
Hire slowly.
Fire quickly.
Much love,
