I was running in to work the other day.
## I’m not much of a runner but am doing more now due to a couple of events I have coming up ##
And I ran past those roadworks on the junction of Park Green and Sunderland street.
And I had a little nosey as you can’t see much when you drive past.
And it was 5.40am and there was no one there to stop me 😉
There’s a rather deep hole there.
Like, massively deep.
You could pop and elephant or two in there.
If you were so inclined.
A lot of road destruction has gone into fixing whatever problem there is there.
But sometimes that’s just what needs to happen.
Ripping up what’s been before to make forward progress.
Sometimes it can be gentle adjustments here and there.
Sometimes you might need to take a sledgehammer to it.
Like with the changes you might make in your life.
Most people will tell you to make slight adjustments.
Nothing “too drastic”.
And we get, and agree with, the rationale.
Maintainable changes.
But sometimes the bigger changes are the more maintainable ones.
As the results that come with them can be more motivating.
That level of change may be easier to define and, therefore, maintain.
A 5% tweak to our eating can, very easily over time, creep back to exactly as it was before without really noticing it.
A big change with a more concrete definition can be easier in some cases.
Just like many people find giving up smoking easier than cutting down long term (not easy, just, maybe less hard)……….
You might find it easier to only eat (or drink) certain things or ways on certain days.
Or to stop certain things completely.
As always, there’s no right or wrong.
It’s about finding what YOU feel you can do that will take you in the right direction.
And that you can maintain long term.
Sometimes you’ll make little fixes.
Sometimes you’ll tear massive holes in the road 🙂
Much love,
Jon ‘Hall Street’ and Matt ‘Nicholson Avenue’
P.S. Yesterday’s middle names were artists who’s most famous songs have times in the title. Dolly Parton – 9 to 5 and ATB – 9pm till I come.
