Last Saturday my three sons and I were, hopefully, at the Community Shield at Wembley.

I say hopefully as I’ve written this blog a couple of weeks ago now.

But I’ve got tickets, and I’m sure we went.

We’re going as my two older lads are Manchester United fans and we’re (roughly) down that way on the family holiday this week.

I am not a Man U fan (despite what some people accuse me of).

But my lads are and they enjoy it and I’m happy to take them.

I aim for a minimum of four games per year.

Last season we actually went to Old Trafford seven times and I went four more with other friends.

I’ve got to be honest, visiting old Trafford eleven times in one season did make me feel a bit dirty.

But that’s not the what’s relevant in this blog.

It’s about how I get tickets.

Because I’ve had many people ask me how I get them.

Or mention being lucky getting to go so frequently.

The short answer is, I just buy them when they become available.

I put release dates in my calendar when they come out and make sure I’m online with multiple devices open to get a good position in the queue.

I’ve already cross-referenced dates we have the boys and any other commitments to identify the matches that work.

Sure there’s an amount of money that goes into buying them.

But the cheapest one adult and two kids tickets to Old Trafford actually comes to a lot less than I would have assumed (it’s only a couple of pounds more than the wife’s family pay to watch Sheffield Wednesday).

It’s largely the organisation that enables me to get the tickets.

People who have expressed to me “I never seem to be able to get any tickets” have never put this level of organisation into that process.

Because it’s the boring and monotonous planning and organisation that allows us to do the fun and enjoyable stuff.

I find the more time I spend doing boring and monotonous planning and organisation……….

The more fun I have.

It’s the same with our eating, exercise, mood, sleep and literally anything else.

Breaking down the steps that needed to be taken to take us from where we are now to where we want to be……….

Literally scheduling in our diary when those steps are to be taken………..

Getting the buy in and support of others who are involved in these things……….

Is a much more likely to succeed approach than “I’ll just fit it in”.

Or “I know what I need to do, I just need to do it” (this is the eternal cry of people not getting the results they want. Try us out at www.myrise.co.uk/apply to change this)

5 or 10 minutes a day of boring and monotonous planning and organisation…………

Will lead to at least some of the other 1,430 odd minutes being more beneficial and enjoyable.

Much love,

Jon ‘First time at Wembley’ Hall
