People often find when they start with us that they face unexpected criticism.

From partners, friends, family, colleagues, etc.

People telling them things like:

“Won’t you stop being so boring?”

“You don’t need to do all that exercise you know?”

“Don’t you think you’re overdoing it?”

“Go on – just one won’t hurt”

And so on.

And people often struggle with that.

And it can derail them.

There’s a great quote by Aristotle:

“To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing”.

Criticism can often be a good sign that you are going in the right direction.

If no one felt the need to comment on what you were doing, chance are you wouldn’t be doing much.

We’ve mentioned before that “failure is best endured shared”.

How people will often, without realising it, want you to fail.

As it validates their own excuses.

If you too struggle to lose weight (or whatever you’re trying to do) then it proves to them that it’s not possible “for people like us”.

You active and it shines a light on their own lack of success under the same circumstances.

Shame really, but that’s the way people are.

And, when you realise that, and that criticism always follows action, it helps put it in context.

And you can start to ignore it 🙂
