Have you ever thought that you’ve struggled to “get momentum”?
With anything, but especially exercise and changing our eating?
As I often do, it’s useful to look at the definition of the words we use in certain situations.
It can help us reframe them.
Or, sometimes, to realise that we’re using the wrong word.
And another might serve us better.
So, “momentum”:
“the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.”
Two variables there.
Mass and velocity.
Speed.
Movement.
Without movement, there is no speed.
And this equation becomes a “times by zero”.
Which is, of course, zero.
You can’t have momentum without movement.
All movement will create momentum.
So there’s our answer really.
Start “moving”.
Then don’t stop.
Slowing down and speeding us as circumstance dictates is fine.
There’s still momentum there.
Speeding back up is way easier than getting going again.
That’s the advantage of a five minute workout and some “better than could’ve been” food choices.
Not just the actual value they provide (more than we’ll tell ourselves)………..
But how they make it way more likely that we’ll do even more.
Three workouts next week is massively more likely if we do one this week.
Eating really well next week is more likely if we eat “alright” this week.
You want momentum?
Stop stopping.
