Last night (Monday 28th January 2013) Channel 4 aired a Dispatches programme about Weight Watchers. In the 12 or so hours since, we have been inundated with questions about Weight Watchers, our opinions on it and so on.

How to make Weight Watchers work for you

Firstly, I haven’t seen the programme. I got rid of my TV a few years ago (and that was one of the best decisions I ever made, but that’s a different article).

This article is not a review of the programme. It is how to get Weight Watchers to work for you. If Weight Watchers is your preferred nutritional approach, what else you can do to maximise the weight loss results you are looking for.

My personal opinion on Weight Watchers may surprise you. It’s different to a lot of FitPros (Fitness Professionals). My opinion on Weight Watchers is …….. I like it.

Sure, there are a lot of things we chose to do somewhat differently at RISE. Our nutritional approach is not the same.

There are some things we recommend that they would not. And vice verse.

And nutrition is only a small part of what we do with our L.E.A.N. System (Lifestyle, Exercise, Adherence and Nutrition).

However we are working towards the same goal.

To help make people lose body fat.

We want to help people lose weight, become happier with their bodies and so on.

And so do they.

For many people it is the first time in their life they have been taught anything about nutrition.

About what to eat and not.

From my experience, people who do Weight Watchers always end up having a better diet then they had before.

Again, it might not be exactly what we’d recommend, but it is a huge step in the right direction for many.

And their approach has a lot of strengths.

They are great at the ‘shared experience’ of the weight loss journey.

People feel part of something when they join Weight Watchers, much more then they do with a gym or Bootcamp.

Which is one of the reasons why they are busier than ever and many gyms and bootcamps are struggling.

And Weight Watchers members usually lose weight much more than the average gym or bootcamp user.

Their methods or creating ‘tribes’ and the ‘shared experience’ are something we have studied and incorporated into The L.E.A.N. System.

Which is one of the reasons our members do so well.

Any why we’re going from strength to strength, while gyms and bootcamps are struggling.

So, if Weight Watchers works for you, then that’s awesome.

Carry on.

We want to help create a healthier and happier world.

And if Weight Watchers helps make you healthier and happier, then that is a result.

There are, however, additional things you can do alongside Weight Watchers to maximise your results.

Below are some of the things that are parts of our L.E.A.N. System that you could do to get even better results.

Sort out sleep, stress and hydration.

Poor sleep and high stress levels can contribute to elevated Cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone that causes you to store energy as fat more readily, particularly around the stomach.

Balance your Oestrogen levels

Our tap water has the highest levels of Oestrogen in the whole world. This is why guys nowadays are getting man boobs (moobs) and bingo wings. It’s why many women struggle so much to lose fat from stubborn areas such as the thighs and backs of the arms.

If these are problems areas for you, you will probably need to address your Oestrogen balance. You can see details of how to do this at myrise.co.uk/members/protocol-oestrogen

Try some High Intensity Interval Training

HIIT has been proven to be many more times more effective at helping lose body fat then the traditional, low intensity, 30 minutes on a bike type workout.

If you’re a Weight Watchers (or Slimming World or any other slimming club), then please try adding these steps into what you’re doing and let us know how they help.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to post them below or in our free facebook group at www.facebook.com/groups/360761254014069
