I was listening to the radio the other day while doing the school run.

“All around the world” by Lisa Stansfield came on.

make time for personal training

One of the the lyrics jumped out at me;

“I did too much lying, wasted too much time”

You may know that Matt and I work with our own coaches.

And we coach the coaches at RISE.

As I put on a Facebook post the other day, if a coach doesn’t have a coach then either;

A) Every aspect of their life is absolutely perfect (unlikely) or

B) They don’t believe in the benefits of coaching as much as they tell you

My coach is very direct.

Which I like.

Sometimes he gets my (and others on the programme’s) back up.

But, invariably, when I (and they) react like that, it’s because the truth hurts.

We realise, at some point, that he was right.

If he was wrong we wouldn’t have been that bothered, I’m sure.

In a recent call he was accusing some of us of lying.

He actually used considerably stronger language than that.

We were giving our reasons for not having done what we said we would.

And he called us on it.

Sure the ‘reasons’ were real.

But they weren’t insurmountable.

To present them as such was a lie.

When we say we didn’t have time to do something………..

But we know we would’ve made time to do it if our (or a loved ones’) life depended on it…………

Then we are lying.

What we are saying isn’t true.

The definition of lying.

It’s a hard pill to swallow.

But it is empowering.

Make Time for Personal Training

When we accept that when we say we haven’t had time to do something we are usually lying………..

That opens up some serious power in us. We can make time for personal training.

Sure, we don’t have to do it.

We may say “With everything else that was on, I chose not to exercise last week”.

Or “I just didn’t want to do it”.

Or “I chose to watch TV / see friends / chill out / get an early night”

All those things are fine – our lives, our choices!

But that then becomes a very different conversation to when we lie to ourselves that we didn’t have time!

Much love,

Jon ‘Can’t Dance’ Hall and Matt ‘The Longer We Make Love’ Nicholson

P.S. If you (or a friend) have realised that you’ll probably never have any more time than you do right now and that there is no ‘right time’, then tonight could be that first step to making lasting change.
