Another comment we sometimes get on our Facebook ads (see last couple of blogs) is some version of;
“Why is this sh!t appearing in my feed. I didn’t ask to see these ads. Stop sending them to me”.
That’s an exact copy and paste of one I just got.
My reply is usually along the lines of;
“Hey NAME – Facebook will be showing you our ads as you’ll meet some criteria of the the kind of person we’ve asked them to be shown to. No one asks to see ads as such – Facebook is able to offer this platform free to end users by showing them adverts that might interest them from companies, like ours, that pay for this. You can stop seeing our ads by clicking the three dots in the top right hand corner. Jon”
Because no one asks to see ads per se, do they?
But they do……… indirectly.
By agreeing to use a platform that is ad supported.
The decision to see ads is a direct result of that person’s choices.
Like other potentially undesired ‘side effects’ can be.
Like no one chooses to gain weight as such.
But they do really with their food and activity decisions over months and years.
Probably not consciously and deliberately, sure.
But what happened was, ultimately, a product of their earlier decisions.
And realising that it powerful.
It puts us in a position to make changes to that.
When we tell ourselves that our current position is due to factors outside of our control, we rob ourselves of that ability to change the outcome.
When our body not being as we’d like it to be is because of our “metabolism” or “genes” or “age”…………
Or we’re doing no exercise at all because we’re “too busy”………..
Or we “don’t have time” to make some changes to our eating…………
Then nothing is likely to change.
When we accept that, like we chose to see Facebook ads, we, essentially, chose to get fat and reduce our energy levels and mood…………..
It’s a brave decision…………..
But one that is way more likely to lead to change and the results we’d like.
Only when we realise that we have a choice can we make a different one!
