You know what would’ve been nice?

If a fifth song came on (see the last four days on blogs) that gave me an insight.

But it didn’t.

Would’ve rounded out the week well.

Five songs.

Five blogs.

Perfect!

When it didn’t happen, I had three choices.

1. Make up a fifth song (I have tonnes of notes of songs lyrics for potential blogs that I could’ve easily said I’d heard that day and you’d never know).

2. ‘Write off’ the whole idea as it won’t be perfect.

3. Finish it off with something else that kinda fits, but not perfectly.

I’ve gone for number three.

And when I was thinking about what to put, I remembered a line.

Funnily enough from another excellent singer.

But it was spoken.

In this powerful video –> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi0Nazr5d8c

It’s only a couple of minutes, go and have a watch.

It’s got in it the same Alastair and Lee that I mentioned in Wednesday’s blog.

Part way through Alastair says “I don’t have to be perfect every single day. I just have to be moving forwards in my journey”.

Nail on the head.

The quest for perfection is something that can easily hold us back.

And mean we actually end up getting further from it.

We have this idea of the theoretical optimal way to eat, drink, exercise, sleep and live in general.

And when it can’t happen for various reasons……..

We ‘write it off’.

Go to the opposite end of the spectrum.

Ready to “start again next week”.

Understanding “perfection” is fine.

Knowing the very best way to do something can give us a baseline.

Some context.

Allow us to create a plan that will take us in the right direction.

But it has to be one that’s doable for us.

At most, as far along the line between the current situation and perfection as we can go and, on average maintain.

If we’re at a 4 and perfection is a 10……..

Then 5 will get us there over time.

A mixture of 3s, 7s and 8s will.

As long their average is sufficient.

If ‘all or nothing’ has worked for you so far, that’s great.

If, like for most, it hasn’t……..

Then remembering that “I don’t have to be perfect every single day” might just help.

Much love,
