💡💡💡

A couple of weeks ago, I did a couple of blogs about things that I mentioned at the monthly briefing meetings that we used to run.

I thought of another the other day.

It was an image of a member of the cabin crew on a plane, demonstrating the application of an oxygen mask.

We asked those in attendance who the crew advised you to apply the mask first to in the “unlikely event of an emergency”.

Most people correctly said that they advised applying your own mask first.

Why?

Because if we’re passing out (or dead) then we’re no good to anyone else.

We help more people by helping ourselves first.

Not less.

We get that.

We accept it.

But we don’t always do it in other areas of our lives.

It’s easy for the needs of everyone else to get in the way of our own.

Other halves and kids.

Employers, employees, colleagues, etc.

Friends, family members and others.

Before we know it, years have passed where we’ve been putting others first.

And our own health, fitness, energy levels and mood have suffered.

We get it.

But, like with the application of an oxygen mask, looking after ourselves is actually the least selfish thing we can do.

Doing the things that give us more energy, enthusiasm, endurance and patience and better mood………

Mean we can better support those around us.

Helping them more.

Not less.

We can only serve other people to the level that we serve ourselves.

Counter intuitive as it can sound, we serve those in our lives that we care about more…….

By serving ourselves first.

Much love,

Jon ‘Masked Dancer’ Hall
