My phone recently updated.
You know, that surprisingly laborious process where you have to keep deleting enough stuff from the phone to make room.
Then it’s out of action for half a day.
The changes are mostly useful.
One though keeps catching me out.
On the drag down menu at the top……..
The buttons for aeroplane mode and for mobile data have switched place.
So…….
I keep putting it aeroplane mode when I actually want to turn mobile data on.
## I only have set amount of data which I get close to every month and it saves battery which I struggle with as I do so much work every day on my phone ##
Even though I now know they’re in different positions.
Habit kicks in and I keep pressing the wrong button,
I often know it’s the wrong button as I press it.
Habits can be hard to change.
Especially when you’ve done the old one a lot.
I’ve probably changed between the modes several times a day for 6 years now (it’s been the same way on all previous upgrades).
Several thousand times doing a particular habit.
It won’t change overnight.
I get it right first time about 50% of the time now.
And will have it nailed in a week I reckon 🙂
It’s the same with many habits.
If you do something one way for a long time………
It can take a period of adjustment.
Even if the new way is, technically, no harder than the old way.
Eating healthier foods and drinking water can be no harder than eating crap and mainlining caffeine.
But that change takes some effort.
We get that.
We don’t expect things to change at the click of your fingers.
If it was that easy, we’d have done it years ago.
It does get easier though.
We promise.
All the research ever shows that the first five times are the hardest.
Once you pass that the chance of keeping it up increases hugely.
Once you get to 28 days, that habit is reasonably set.
You stand a great chance of keeping it up long term.
So, don’t get overfaced by the magnitude of the change infront of you.
Just concentrate on the first time.
The first workout.
The first healthier meal.

Then look at the next four.
Then work to the 28 day mark.
And, one day, you’ll look back and wonder how you ever struggled.
