I mentioned in yesterday’s blog that the family and I stayed in an Airbnb for three nights last week. That was technically a lie. I found the place on Airbnb, that much is true. I like the fact that you can filter different accommodation types easily and that you can specify any start and end dates (some websites only allow Friday and Monday swaps and 3, 4 or 7 days). But having found somewhere I liked, I googled their website. And found it was about £100 cheaper overall if booked on there. Took me an extra 30 seconds. A very high return on investment 30 seconds that. And there’s lots of equivalents that we can do. If we’re eating out, spend an extra few seconds checking the calorie content on the menu if it’s there. Or an extra minute looking on MyFitnessPal if it’s not. Maybe spending a couple of minutes before you go out, checking online and making the decision before you go. Maybe doing similar when you pick up a quick lunch. Or a meal deal. Or even the same with your weekly big shop. Overall you’re looking at minutes a week. For a big return on investment. You can easily save yourself 500 calories a day with little to no difference in convenience, cost and enjoyment. Nearly four stone lost in a year for next to no effort. Or you can just save those few seconds and give minimal thoughts to your food choices. And not lose that four stone. Like I could have wasted that £100. I think I know which we’d all really prefer.
