It was our Christmas do last Saturday.
About 50 of us descended on Alfred’s on Park Green.
It was a great night!
As has happened at pretty much every well attended social event for the last 10 years, several people commented to me “It’s great how many people are up for going out”.
And many times other Fitness Professionals friends have expressed to me disappointment that they don’t get anywhere near the same number for their social events.
When I ask what they’ve done to promote it, the answer is usually something like “I put it in the Facebook group” or “I sent a few emails”.
I once went to a Lazer Quest social for a gym I was working at in Sheffield 17 years ago.
Only I turned up.
All that had been done to let people know was a placing of a few posters around the club.
The attendance at our social events are the result of weeks or months of me asking people over and over and over again.
Conversations in club, text messages, etc.
If someone tells me they’re not coming, that’s cool.
I won’t keep hassling them about it.
But I’ll keep asking until I get an answer one way or the other.
Much more effort goes into getting the result that I desire (good attendance) than most might realize.
Lots of little bits of effort………
That, individually make little difference………
But that, done consistently over time, add up.
As is the case with most results.
It’s tempting to look at our friend and think that they must have some great metabolism.
That they never gain weight no matter what they eat.
Missing out on the dozens of little decisions each week that lead them to be in average calorie maintenance.
We improve and maintain our health, fitness and energy levels……….
Not through occasional massive physical efforts………
But through hundreds of work outs over many years.
It’s always the little decisions that we’re tempted to think don’t matter individually.
One missed conversation doesn’t make much difference to a social’s attendance.
One different food choice makes little difference to our weight.
One missed workout doesn’t really matter.
But they all add up.
The little things that we do everyday for weeks, months and years on end………
Are where the results we desire lie.
Much love,
Jon ‘Years and years’ Hall
P.S. Where most people are struggling when they start with us is not in the getting started (they’ve done that several times before usually), it’s in the keeping going. And that’s what we’re really good at helping with. Enter your details at www.myrise.co.uk/apply to find out how that could become you either now (with two extra weeks for free for those that start around Christmas) or in the New Year!
