I mentioned many times before that one of the most common things that people mentioned that they feel they need help with when I first talked to them is “motivation”.

Usually in conversation then becomes pretty clear why they’re struggling to be motivated to do that thing.

It’s really boring.

They don’t get any enjoyment whatsoever out of it.

Actively dislike it in many cases

So it’s not surprising really.

I think we all struggle to be motivated by things that we find boring.

Nothing against knitting but I would struggle to be motivated to do it.

So maybe the answer when we struggle with being motivated to do something is to look at things that we don’t struggle to be motivated to do.

And I would be willing to bet that there is some combination of increased enjoyment and / or increased perceived benefit.

If you paid me a thousand pounds every time I knitted something, I think I’ll be fairly motivated to do it.

For a million quid it would be incredibly easy.

Even though the actual process hasn’t changed.

If I decided to start knitting with friends and we made a little fun party out of it over a couple of beers, it would be even easier

So how can we replicate this with things like exercise and eating better, or anything else that we’re struggling to feel motivated to do?

Usually the benefits are already there.

We just forget them.

Or maybe they feel a bit too ‘distant’.

If we stack up the benefits as much as possible, you straight await to see if it in a different way.

We can literally sit and write down every single benefit to us from regular exercise and eating better.

10 minutes in which we don’t allow our pen to stop will produce a more substantial list than we might realise.

“Losing some weight” can quickly turn into;

– Feeling better
– More energy
– Less grumpiness
– Being a better parent
– Good example to the kids
– Being a better partner
– More energy and productivity at work
– Earn more money from being able to work more effectively
– Better sex life
– Better focus
– Less aches and pains
– Better mood and mental health
– Probably going to live longer
– Less bloatedness
– Sleep better

And more!

And if we make the process something we find more enjoyable as well?

Exercising with other people in a format that we find more enjoyable perhaps? —– cough *** here —> www.myrise.co.uk/apply *** cough ——-

Whatever the case, I’m pretty confident there will be commonalities in the things that we find easy to be motivated to do………

And replicating those things in the things we find harder can really make that motivation easier to come by.

Much love,
