A big part of what we do is accountability.

Following people up, helping them set plans and checking in if they’ve done them.

Because it’s super easy to leave things when it doesn’t really matter if you do it now or not.

And pretty much everyone likes the idea of accountability initially.

But it can become less appealing when we don’t do what we said we would.

“I don’t want you to make me feel bad if I don’t do it” we might say.

—— I’m including myself in this as I have accountability in my coaching programme and don’t enjoy reporting it when I haven’t done what I said I would ——–

But, unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.

If we didn’t care, it wouldn’t really be accountability.

If we didn’t feel bad to some degree if we didn’t do something, then we’re unlikely to do it.

Caring about doing something is essential to it happening.

Putting ourselves in a position where there a clear definition of success and failure is a brave choice.

But it’s powerful to remember that, it we didn’t set a plan that we were accountable to then we’re considerably less likely still to do it.

A feeling of success can only come with a definition of that and, therefore, a definition of failure.

And by setting that definition and being willing to feel at least a bit bad if we don’t do it………

Makes it much more likely that we will do it.
