Accountability.
It’s something that we offer.
Something people often feel is one of the reasons they aren’t getting the results they want.
Because, in the short term at least, it doesn’t really matter if they make a different decision.
When the only person we’ll be letting down if we don’t do what we intended to………
Is us………..
It’s very easy to do that.
We’ve broken promises to ourselves so many thousands of times over the years that we probably don’t even notice that’s what happening anymore.
But when it matters to someone else.
When someone else will notice.
When someone else cares.
It can be a different story.
To a point.
Each week our members set a plan for the week.
A specific intention for what they’ll be doing over the coming 7 days.
One that is worthwhile.
But also takes into account the particular challenges we have at that point.
And we check in with them at the end of the week.
And every 8 weeks they did what they said they would, they get a reward in the post.
We also check in with them if they haven’t been in to the club for a Session for a week.
And give them a nudge if they haven’t been using some of the other systems that will benefit them.
Some people don’t use these systems at all.
And there’s a direct (indirect really) correlation between that and how likely they are to leave, how long they stay and the results they get.
Whenever a member says they “need more accountability”, I can guarantee one thing.
They haven’t been using the accountability already there.
Not setting a Plan for the week.
Nearly always ignoring our attempts to contact them.
If that’s the case, would even more frequent contact help?
Would even more systems be the answer?
Nope.
There’s only so much accountability that can be given.
We can’t stop someone ignoring it.
To be accountable you have to be able (and willing) to be held to account.
I can guarantee that if someone’s ignoring a degree of accountability, they’re already feeling that they don’t want to do that thing.
We don’t need to be accountable for things we want to do.
And us contacting them even more will just make them want to do it even less.
There’s such a thing as “too much accountability”.
Has the opposite effect.
So, if you’re a ninja already. and not using the accountability systems (and are anything less than 100% happy with your results), then more accountability isn’t the answer – be willing to use and to account to what there is.
If you’re not already a ninja and feel you would benefit from some ‘Goldilocks accountability’ (not too little, not too much), then here’s how you take the next step –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply
